VISIT to Beaulieu Palace House, Hampshire
Tuesday 18 July 2017

This famous home of the National Motor Museum, exhibiting a priceless collection of historical vehicles, is also one of the ten Treasure Houses of England. Beaulieu has a beautiful location surrounded by the moors of the New Forest.  There has been an Abbey at Beaulieu since 1204 and the 13th century Palace House was originally its gatehouse, expanded massively over two building programmes in the 16th and 19th centuries.   The Palace House has been in the Montagu family since 1538 and what you see today is in the Victorian gothic style.  Beaulieu village was once home to 3000 spies and secret agents who completed their training there in World War II.  The Secret Exhibition tells the story of this training school.  Beaulieu also features beautiful gardens including the fragrant Victorian Flower Garden, the informal Wilderness Garden, dating back to the 1770s, and the Victorian Kitchen Garden, laid out on the site of the original Palace House kitchen garden of the 1880s.

We will have a one hour guided tour of the House and a further one hour guided tour of the Abbey with a break for lunch in between.  There will be some free time to visit the other attractions such as the gardens and Motor Museum.
